8 ways to improve your sleep

Updated: Jun 23, 2022

What is the big deal with sleep anyways?

My husband would laugh so hard for my even making the reference because I’m a technology idiot BUT getting sleep is like running maintenance on your computer. When you SLEEP your brain organizes, updates and resets much like a computer clean up or a software update. Get less than 7-8 hours of sleep and you’re just leaving fragmented files everywhere 🤦🏼‍♀️

So what happens when you don’t update your computer?

👉🏻 it’s sluggish and doesn’t perform efficiently, right 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sleep deprivation (imagine a low battery) is like never being fully charged. Your brain is in low power mode 🔋 with lighter overall sleep and fewer REM cycles. Once you get your sleep schedule on track and start racking up those 💤 you will find your quality of sleep improves.

Here are a couple of ways to improve sleep 😴

☕️ Avoid Caffeine 10 hours before bedtime

🧘🏽‍♂️ Meditate 30 minutes before bed so you can fall asleep faster

🌚 Make your room dark. This helps your body create melatonin. Use an eye mask if needed.

💊 Try natural sleep aids to get you back in a rhythm of sleeping. I’ll link my 2 favs and where to find this cool weighted mask in my bio 😉

🛌 Create a restful environment. Make your bed comfy and quiet. Invest in a good mattress and turn your phone on “do not disturb!”

💤 Try power napping! Usually 20 minutes is a good time to keep you from feeling groggy and hindering your sleep later in the day.

📝 Journaling or data dumping can help those of us with racing thoughts clear our minds before bed. Bring a notepad to your bedside table and write everything down before your head hits the pillow.

⏰ Schedule a time to go to sleep and a proper bedtime routine so your body creates a habit. Nighttime skincare routine, brush your teeth (and floss!) and journal or meditate.

💧 and we can’t forget sleep drops and magnesium! If you want more info on these check out the link here https://stacygartner.monatmsg.com/l6jYj41Ev8
