There is no secret the world has been telling middle aged women FOR YEARS that our metabolism is going to slow down and we are going to gain weight as we get older but this is far from the whole truth.
As we get older our lifestyle tends to change. We don’t move as much, we have more stress and most of us aren’t lifting weights.
Want to hack the system?
Here are four ways you can stay fit or get fit as you move into your 40s!
HYDRATE! You should be drinking half of your body weight (in pounds) of NON CAFFEINATED UNSWEETENED beverages a day! Basically this means 💦
Prioritize lean protein. Think chicken, lean cuts of beef & pork, and fish. Protein helps us build lean muscle which helps to increase metabolism. It’s also the most thermogenesis of the three macronutrients meaning you’re burning calories while you eat it!
Lift weights 2-3 days/week. You don’t have to kill yourself at the gym 6 days a week to add some lean mass. Spending 2-3 days, lifting moderately heavy, and working all major muscle groups is enough. Want more? Go for it! But it’s not necessary. Want a plan to get started? Check out our plans here.
Last but not least….eat your fruits & veggies! I have never been a fan of a plan that restricts foods from a food group unless you’re allergic or sensitive. Skipping your fruits & veggies has you missing out on vital nutrients, fiber, and high volume foods that enhance your diets flavor and nutrients!
