If you’re new around here or perhaps you’ve missed this last chunk of my life I want to share a little about my journey.
In 2014 I moved to Florida. Wait, wait, wait….let’s back up! We had lived in Hawaii for three years and I was doing ALL the cardio. I was tiny and in the best cardio respiratory shape of my life. I was swimming miles in open water, competing in swimming, running and multi sport events. I never stopped moving.
The weather never stopped being nice, the neighborhoods were all perfect for running and biking and we did sporty things like kayaking and surfing for fun.
I went to SC for a year and was smacked in the face by the real world. Working full time and trying to find a balance. I quickly gained 10lbs on my tiny 5’ frame and I was struggling to feel like myself. That summer we moved to meet Jason after deployment in FL. I took a full time fitness job and I loved it but I was still struggling to find my people.
With a TON of hesitation I went with my sweet friend Jennifer to try CrossFit and we were both hooked. By October of 2016 I was competing (and winning) and felt like I had found my people. And I was in the best functional shape of my life.
Then I had MAJOR surgery, moved to Japan and left my people.....
I weigh 151 lbs in all three of these photos.

The first one was taken at Crush Games 10/16, the other 2/17 when I started working with a coach after my 10 week recovery from surgery and then today 9/22 nearly 6 years after the first photo. I strength train 3xs a week. I run or cycle 3-4 times a week and I hike, bike, surf and snowboard on the weekends. I also rest and do yoga 😉 I’m the strongest I have been in my life!
The points are these 😂
1. Progress takes time and patience.
2. Fitness is a lifestyle so choose something you enjoy doing.
3. Find a way to measure your progress other than the scale. The scale is good. It’s a tool. But it’s not the only tool.
4. Get a coach. The accountability and the lack of emotion in decisions is really important. I know all the things. I still hired a coach. Twice!
If this was helpful and you read all the way to the end share my journey with someone who needs to see the scale is not the only option!
